Ghanaians are expected to re-register their SIM cards this coming Friday, October 1 with the National Identification Card, popularly mentioned because the “Ghana Card.”
The exercise which was speculated to began in June this year was delayed because of the just-ended Population and Housing Census.
This may be in line with the government’s effort to create the Ghana Card a one-stop identification document within the country. The re-registration of SIM cards is anticipated to last for six months that's from October 1, 2021, to March 31, 2022. Any SIM not registered within this era are visiting be permanently blocked, the Minister of Communication.
Each user is allowed to register 10 different numbers with his/her Ghana Card. The user are notified via text message with a singular code upon successful registration. Users who encounter problems while linking their Ghana card with their SIMs are given three chances to answer security questions after which they go to be directed to the National Identification Authority (NIA) if the matter persists.
